TeamVodafone endured another tough day at the Formula 1 Qantas Australian Grand Prix with Jamie Whincup involved in a spectacular four car pile up on the opening lap of today’s race.

Teammate Craig Lowndes managed to avoid the carnage and finish seventh, while Whincup ended in the race 23rd.

The reigning champion started the proposed 20 lap race fifth but suffered an uncharacteristic clutch issue off the line. Whincup lost a number of positions before being spun by James Courtney, causing a four car pile up.

With the race red flagged, Whincup returned to the pits to have the damage assessed and after minor repairs, lined up for the restart in pitlane.

With the race shortened to 7 Laps due to time constraints,  the Car #1 driver took his compulsory pitstop on Lap 5, before finishing the race 23rd.

After starting today’s race from the back of the grid, Lowndes opted to take his compulsory pitstop on the opening lap of the restart. Once on the soft compound tyres, the Holden driver charged up the order to finish the race seventh.

With the final V8 Supercar race for the Formula 1 Qantas Australian Grand Prix to be determined by each drivers overall points for the weekend, Whincup will start 11th on the grid while Lowndes will start from 18th position.
